The concept of cattle raised on forage is "old as dirt" but today's
health conscious consumer is armed with the science to demand the benefits
of Omega 3's
(supports cardiovascular health) and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA increases
the proportion of lean muscle to fat and is believed to play an important part
in
the nervous immune system such as prevention of Alzheimer's disease) which are
available from grass finished beef. We are concentrating on developing grass
Herefords using an old American bloodline as base. Linebred cows which
have been bred out once or twice are being bred back to bulls that are 1/2 or
1/4 linebred. This program is adding length and pounds to cattle already
extremely meaty. EPDs, pelvic measurements and ultrasound information is
available. All cows are weighed on the same day as the calves are weaned. We
are a performance herd with 9 dams recognized as Dams of Distinction in 2003.
We are
the only herd in North America that feeds absolutely NO GRAIN and still
participates in whole herd reporting with the AHA.
